Faster Chip Design with Intel® Xeon® Processor 5500 Series

For Intel’s chip design process, increased design complexity and business requirements lead to exponential compute capacity growth and increased cost. To help us understand how the new Intel® Xeon® processor 5500 series could address these challenges, we recently ran a broad range of industry-leading end-to-end electronic design automation (EDA) applications with more than 50 Intel silicon design workloads. We concluded that can replace up to 11 single-core processor-based servers with one quad-core processor-based server for some EDA applications, lower operational costs, and accelerate design cycles to achieve faster time to market.     Hi,

    “Table 1. Test System Configurations” shows that the system with the X5570 processor was equiped with 16 GB of RAM.
    How were the 6 memory channels populated to get 16 GB ?

    Here’s the answer from one of the authors of the white paper:

    4+2+2 GB RAM for each side of the two processors
