Intel IT is deploying Intel® vPro™ technology to maintain, manage and protect client systems more effectively. One important issue was integrating the solution with existing security infrastructure and policies to ensure secure client management across the enterprise. After performing qualitative risk assessments, potential threats were identified and prioritized leading Intel IT to design a certificate-based authentication solution to control access to the client management console.

OS streaming can deliver considerable manageability benefits to Intel IT training rooms with multi-user PCs. To evaluate performance and utilization in a production environment, we conducted proof of concept (PoC) testing in two rooms located in different buildings on an Intel campus. We found that OS streaming improved manageability and delivered fast client boot times with moderate server and network utilization, even during worst-case boot storms.

Intel IT Services manage more than 77,000 mobile and 14,000 desktop PCs in 144 sites in 60 countries—all under ever tightening budgets. In this article posted on FierceCIO.com, authors George Clement, a Systems Programmer for Intel IT, and Richard Lansford, a business value analyst with the Intel IT Business Value program, say that by treating the PC as an asset, rather than a piece of expendable hardware and by employing new strategies and technologies, Intel has been able to lower costs, achieve greater productivity and increase both worker satisfaction and IT efficiency.
