Station Casinos: A Safe Bet

To help control IT costs and ensure a robust customer experience, the Station Casinos IT group virtualized its infrastructure by running VMware* virtualization software on Dell PowerEdge* servers equipped with the Intel® Xeon® processor 5100 and 5400 series. So far, the company has eliminated almost 100 physical servers, avoided $190,000 in hardware acquisition costs, and accelerated the deployment of new services from weeks to hours. Tyson Foods: Realizing Cost Savings and Improved Productivity Through Remote Management Capabilities

Tyson started with 1,500 PCs (13% of their desktop environment), which were already capable of being managed with Intel® Standard Manageability, built into PCs with Intel® vPro™ technology. Within three days Tyson had enabled their infrastructure and three weeks later were well on their way to realizing the cost savings inherent in PCs with Intel vPro technology. Based on these results, Tyson plans to have 100% (11,500) of their desktop PCs refreshed with this technology over four years through their standard refresh program. (more…)

Measuring the Return on IT Security Investments

Improving Security and Productivity through Federation and Single Sign-on

Intel IT has developed a single sign-on strategy and process that provides seamless user access to both internally and externally hosted applications, improving the security of sensitive user profile information, reducing maintenance and costs, and simplifying the user experience. Single sign-on enables centralized storage of sensitive user profile information through the use of standards-based identify federation, and this information remains under Intel’s sole control. TIBCO Software Opts for Blades to Address Business Growth, Lower IT Costs

Purdue: The Silicon Beneath Steele

By creating community clusters, Purdue University’s Rosen Center for Advanced Computing (RCAC) changed the way high-performance computing was done on campus to enable faculty and research labs to access greater resources than any one group could acquire and maintain on its own. “Steele” is a new community cluster based upon the Intel® Xeon® processor 5400 series, which delivers the performance required by researchers to produce tomorrow’s breakthroughs in a wide range of fields. Leaner and Greener with Intel® vPro™ Technology

Recently completing a refresh of 4,800 desktop PCs, upgrading to PCs with Intel® Core™2 processors with vPro™ technology, the University of Plymouth studied the ROI realized by this deployment. Within two months of initiating intelligent power management enabled by Intel® vPro™ technology, the university saved approximately £5,200 in electricity costs, and the break-even point for Intel vPro technology was achieved in under a year. How Virtualization Will Enable the True Predictive Enterprise

Intel vice president and chief information office Diane Bryant and VMware vice president of global alliances Brian Byun describe how virtualization will enable the true predictive enterprise — the ability for an IT manager to respond dynamically to the change in demands in their business. Byun further explains that the two companies are looking at how to work with customers to get additional benefits beyond cost savings.  Additionally several customers who have implemented VMware infrastructure on Intel architecture briefly describe their experiences.
