Selecting Server Processors to Reduce Total Cost

Intel IT is standardizing on Intel® Xeon® processor X5570 for two-socket servers for design computing and enterprise server virtualization. Our testing and analysis demonstrate that the newest high-end Intel® Xeon® processors based on Next-Generation Intel® Microarchitecture codenamed Nehalem can significantly enhance server performance, providing an opportunity for Intel IT to reduce total cost of ownership (TCO) by 42 percent. Tyson Foods: Realizing Cost Savings and Improved Productivity Through Remote Management Capabilities

Tyson started with 1,500 PCs (13% of their desktop environment), which were already capable of being managed with Intel® Standard Manageability, built into PCs with Intel® vPro™ technology. Within three days Tyson had enabled their infrastructure and three weeks later were well on their way to realizing the cost savings inherent in PCs with Intel vPro technology. Based on these results, Tyson plans to have 100% (11,500) of their desktop PCs refreshed with this technology over four years through their standard refresh program. (more…)

Developing an Enterprise Cloud Computing Strategy

Security risks, the lack of mature technology and standards, and other concerns prevent widespread enterprise adoption of external cloud computing today. Intel IT is developing a cloud computing strategy based on growing the cloud from the inside out, initially growing our internal virtualized computing environment to support an increasing number of cloud-like attributes over time. Additionally, Intel is already taking advantage of external cloud computing technologies including software as a service (SaaS) and infrastructure as a service (IaaS).
